Thiel eager to battle All Stars in familiar territory

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (May 11, 2023) - Familiar territory is on the horizon for the “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Premier Motorsports, set to invade the heart of the Midwest in an All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, and Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
Thiel, who calls Sheboygan, Wisconsin, home, is certainly no stranger to the upcoming pair, victorious at each during the course of his career including a win against the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) at Jacksonville, and multiple IRA Outlaw Sprint Series triumphs at Wilmot. In hopes of continuing his winning trend in the area, a victory against the All Stars this weekend would not only secure a first ever with the Series, but it would secure a first with car owner, Pete Grove.
The ace of the Walker’s Game Ear, Lumber & Things, Professional Plating, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Lutes Custom Cabinetry, Linc Systems, No. 70 sprint car will roll into the weekend 14th in the All Star title chase, still working to find rhythm since joining efforts with Ohio-based Premier Motorsports.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to race close to home, and for the opportunity to compete at a pair of tracks I’m familiar with. We can put my notebook to use and hopefully create a solid baseline all weekend. The goal is to be up front,” Thiel said. “A solid, consistent weekend would do us a lot of good. We’ve been working hard in trying to find some momentum…just haven’t found that sweet spot yet. If there’s a good time to do it, it’s this weekend.”
Other noteworthy statistics include a top-ten score against the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Wilmot Raceway in 2022, crossing the line seventh after starting from the pole position. In fact, Wisconsin and World of Outlaws success went hand in hand for the Big Wheel last season, earning a breakout performance in Cedar Lake Speedway’s Independence Day Spectacular on Saturday, July 2; he finished sixth.
