About Scotty

Scotty Thiel began is racing adventure at the young age of six by starting out with snowmobiles and eventually go karts following that winter in 1999. His passion for racing grew tremendously as many other sports went to the back burner in his younger years. Racing was the life he wanted to do. During the first ten years of racing, Scotty picked up hundreds of wins and multiple
championships. It was then in 2008 when Scotty and his family made a big transition of the racing program to a full size 360ci winged sprint car. On September 4th, 2009, the dream of winning a sprint car feature became reality!

So how did Scotty get to where he is at today? In 1998, Scotty began his racing career on kitty cat snowmobiles on the Wisconsin Kitty Cat Racers (WKCR) series and the Wisconsin Kids Snowmobile Racing Association (WKSRA). Scotty won the Rookie of the Year honors with WKCR and would move on to faster sleds throughout the following years. He picked up multiple wins and
championships during the younger years of snowmobile racing including several National and World championships. In 2004, Scotty moved to the Jr. Novice division which was a full size snowmobile and again won Rookie of the Year honors in both WKCR and WKSRA. 2006 marked the next chapter of full size snowmobile racing as Scotty and the team moved to the United States Snowmobile Association (USSA) Pro Star Series, which is the highest level of ice-oval snowmobile racing in the world. Scotty ran two division in his first year and won a few feature events. In 2007, Scotty made great strides in the professional level and won both championships and was voted as the 2007 Most Improved Junior Driver of the Year. Wrapping up his final year on snowmobiles in 2008, Scotty moved up to the Semi-Pro and Pro divisions and he won the Semi-Pro 600 Championship!

When the ice melted, that never stopped Scotty and his team from taking a break from racing since they would be preparing for go kart racing. In 1999, Scotty began racing at Elkhart Lake, WI. He finished 8th in overall points in his rookie season. Over the next five years he raced in Shawano, WI at the USA International Raceway where he racked up three track championships and hundreds of wins. In 2006, Scotty moved up to the regional Mid-West Sprint Series (MWSS). This series raced all across the Mid-West including races in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Scotty picked up several pole awards and a couple feature victories before transitioning over to oval kart racing in 2007. Continuing to race over the mid-west region, Scotty won several feature events along with a second place in WKA King of the Oval Championship points, a WKA Heartland Pavement Tour Track Championship and finished third in the 2007 Wisconsin State Dirt Championship.

2008 marked a huge move in Scotty’s racing career as his team purchased a 360ci winged dirt sprint car. In his rookie season, Scotty captured five heat race wins, two B-main wins, three top 5 A-main finishes, nine top 10 A-main finishes and the 2008 Plymouth Dirt Track Rookie of the Year award all out of the young 16 year old driver. A sprint car A-main victory became reality for Scotty on September 4th, 2009 at the Manitowoc County Speedway. The team began to travel to races outside the state of Wisconsin in 2010, where Scotty would pick up a win with the UMSS Series in Brainerd, MN. From there, they moved up to ASCS 360 racing over the next few seasons where Scotty would record 14 A-main victories which included the 2013 Open Wheel Nationals and became a three time Mighty Axe Nationals Champion. 2014 was the next step in sprint cars for Scotty and team as they began to travel with the regional IRA 410 Sprint car series. Scotty picked up two wins in his first season with the group and became a driver to watch as he picked up over 20 wins from 2016-2019 and ran second in the point’s championship four consecutive years. Over the course of those years, Scotty and the team ran several shows with the All-star Circuit of Champions and the World of Outlaws. Scotty recorded his first top ten finish in 2019 with the World of Outlaws at the State Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN and most recently set Quick Time with the series at the Jackson Motorplex in June 2020.
