Scotty Thiel – Winner at Antigo!

Scotty Thiel and the Scott Thiel Motorsports team headed north Friday night to the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo, Wisconsin with the IRA Series. After being second quick in qualifying and finishing second in the heat race, Thiel charged his way forward from the ninth starting position to take his 4th win of the year at the red clay half mile of Langlade Speedway!

19 cars signed into Antigo on Friday night with the IRA. Scotty was the 8th car out to qualify. He put down a 16.528 lap time, it was second quick on the night. He would go on to start fourth in the eight lap heat race event. After struggling to make passes early in the event and keeping the car straight on the super fast track, Thiel worked his way around and finished second in the heat race only by 0.058 seconds. That would place him in the redraw for the night where he went on to pick the 9th starting position for the 25 lap A-main event. A fast and narrow track was presented the A-main event. As the green flag flew, Scotty worked his way on the bottom side of the track and pulled into the sixth position coming down the back stretch. He picked his way forward lap by lap and began to challenge the leader by lap seven. He slid into the lead in the middle of turns three and four and began his charge forward. 2 caution came into play in the remaining 18 laps of the event but that did not stop Thiel from pulling a commanding lead and never looking back. After 25 laps of green flag action, Thiel would cross the line to capture his 4th win of the season! “This one feels really good. We have struggled here in the past in the main events. Always have been fast but just could never finish the job. We did that tonight! I just had to be patient starting back in the ninth spot but I knew if we could get up front early we would have good shot at the lead. These guys worked really hard all week to prepare for tonight. I can’t thank our partners and fans enough for the support!” stated an excited Scotty Thiel after the main event.

On Saturday night the team headed south to the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI to race with the World of Outlaws. After being 3rd quick in hot laps, Thiel felt confident for the rest of the night. After going out 16th in the qualifying order, he put down a 12.833 lap time which was 11th quick overall from the 29 cars in attendance. That would place him to start fourth in the ten lap heat race event. On the start of the heat race, Thiel charged the top side of the track and moved into third position right away. He battled for the second spot but came up short at the end. That finish was still a really good run and would place him in the 8th starting position for the nights 40 lap A-main event. Thiel held his ground early on in the main event. He moved up to the fifth spot in the first ten laps of the race. He moved up to the top side of the track and lost a few spots but still was holding onto the top ten. A late caution came out with only seven laps to go. On the restart, Thiel was shoved up to the wall and over drove turn one and jumped the big curb of a cushion. He gathered the car back but fell back multiple spots and just wasn’t able to move back forward after struggling to gain anything in the last six laps. He was officially scored in the 17th position after the conclusion of the 40 lap event. “I’m really disappointed in myself after starting out that strong tonight. We held our ground throughout qualifying and the heat race. Set ourselves up well starting 8th in the main event. I knew it was going to be super tough to hold our own out there but we were up to fifth at one point. I just made some bad calls driving later in the race that costed us a lot of ground. I feel like we had a good shot of sticking in the top ten forsure and maybe even the top five. Just disappointed as the results do not show how good we really were. It’s a humbling sport and we will move on and focus for next weeks IRA show.” Mentioned Scotty.

Next up on tap for the STM #64 team is this Saturday night at the Plymouth Dirt track located on the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds with the IRA Series.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
