Scotty Thiel – Mishap at Plymouth with Top 10 Rebound at the Prairie

A double header weekend was set for the Scott Thiel Motorsports #64 team for Father’s Day weekend with the IRA. Night number one brought the team to the Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. Scotty would have a top ten qualifying run and follow that up with a heat race win but the night would end with a disappointing finish after spinning to avoid a wreck. Angell Park Speedway was on tap for Sunday where a second place qualifying run would set for a fairly good night overall and capturing a solid top 10 finish!

30 cars signed into Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday night. Scotty was the 20th car out for qualifying. A couple of rough spots on the track upset the car but Scotty still managed to pull off a 7th place qualifying run with an 11.822 lap time. That would place Thiel to start on the outside front row of the 10 lap heat race event. The field took the green and charged into turn one. Scotty took the lead and never looked back and would take home the win. During the draw, Scotty picked the pole position for the night’s 30 lap A-main event! The green flag flew for the A-main event and Scotty wasn’t able to get the run like he did in the heat race event. He settled into the second position early on in the race before heavy lap traffic would make for a great challenge for the top spot. It was a three car battle for the top spot for a couple of laps straight. On lap 12, a lap car turned sideways in turn three and collected a lead car and Scotty would spin to avoid the wreck. The car was not damaged but Thiel would have to tag the rear of the field as he came to a complete stop and had to get pushed back off. The track was very difficult to pass and being in the back of the pack made it even more difficult. Thiel picked his way through and would end up finishing 13th on the night. “Our night started off alright. I hit the same rut in qualifying but it was still 7th quick overall. Followed that up with a heat race win which was good. Starting on the pole I knew was going to be a little difficult as the top side was the fast lane. Once we got going I thought we were going to be pretty good but just spun to miss the wreck in turn three and that was that. Hard to come back up front as the track was just so narrow. We’ll get it figured out and head to Angell Park Tomorrow.” Scotty mentioned after the event.

Father’s Day and Sunday Night racing joined together and brought the team to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI again. 26 cars were on hand with the IRA and Scotty would be the first car out for qualifying. He put down a 12.364 lap time which ended up second quick on the night by only 0.025 seconds. That placed him to start fourth in the 10 lap heat race event. The field took the green and Scotty charged around the top side of the track. He settled into the third position and would stay there the entire 10 laps. At the end of the race, the rear end on Thiel’s car expired which made the team get to work to change that out before the A-main event. During the draw, Scotty drew the seventh starting position for the 30 lap A-main event. The crew was able to get the car fixed and sent Scotty out for the a-main. The field took the green and Scotty was able to get up into the fifth position early before the red flag came out and the field would have a complete restart. On attempt number two, Scotty wasn’t able to get the grip he had on the first start and fell back several positions in the first couple of laps. By lap five he was able to get in the groove and began to make his way forward. A couple of caution flags helped Thiel get the field bunched back together and after 30 laps of green flag action, he would cross the finish line in the sixth position. “We started off good tonight with that second place qualifying run. The crew had to go to work a little bit after that rear end blew up after the heat race but we were able to get that changed out quickly and focus on the main. The car was pretty good overall. It was a wide track tonight and kind of single lane. The bottom worked a little bit for me but overall the top side was fast and once everyone got up there, it was just a follow the leader type deal. Still a top ten run, but would have like to be a little closer up front. We have a few things to get figured out over the next week.” Thiel would mention after the nights event.

The IRA will be off now until July 1st and 2nd but Scotty will be racing several nights before then. First stop will be this Friday at Spring Lake Speedway in Unity, WI and racing with the MSA 360 series. The next stop will be Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the World of Outlaws. Scotty and the team will then follow this weekend up with two mid-week events starting on Tuesday, June 27th at Route 66 Speedway in Joliet, IL with the World of Outlaws and also Thursday June 29th at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN with the World of Outlaws. Scotty and the team will then return with the IRA at Wilmot Raceway on July 1st and 141 Speedway on July 2nd.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
