Scotty Thiel – Podium Performance at Beaver Dam Raceway

Saturday night the Scott Thiel Motorsports #64 team traveled to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI to race with the IRA Series. After setting quick time in qualifying, driver Scotty Thiel would go on to finish third in the heat race event and would come home with a strong second place finish in the 30 lap main event!

27 cars were signed into Beaver Dam on Saturday night. Scotty drew a 29 pill which placed him 15th in the qualifying order. After laying down a 12.464 lap time, that was Quick Time on the night! That would place Thiel to start fourth in the first heat race event as they invert 4 cars based on qualifying. The start of the heat didn’t go so well as Scotty struggled to gain ground. He fell back to fifth position but would work his way back up to the third position and transfer into the nights 30 lap main event. Because of his qualifying efforts, Scotty was locked into the nightly redraw. One of Thiel’s little race fans drew the #1 starting position for the A-main event. The field took the Green Flag for the 30 lap main event. Scotty quickly jumped out into the early lead and held it for several laps before making a small bobble in turn one and fell back to the second position. A caution came out on lap 15 and would reset the field. After returning to green flag action, Thiel worked the low groove and pulled alongside the leader coming out of turn two but wasn’t able to make the pass for the position. He dropped back into the second spot and continued his chase forward. Lap traffic became very heavy and the lead car and Thiel worked their way around quickly. Scotty was able to gain some ground in lap traffic but just not enough to make a pass to take over the lead. The checkered flag flew and Scotty would cross the finish line in the second position, recording his first podium finish for the 2017 season. “We started off very strong tonight and were able to capture our first quick time for the year. My guys worked really hard and gave me a great car all night long. We were pretty good in the main all night, I don’t think we could have done much more to the car. It was a rocket but I just made some small mistakes that cost a little bit of momentum to get the lead back. All in all it was still a great night for our entire team. I cannot thank all of our great marketing partners enough for their support to our program!” Scotty mentioned at the end of the night.

Next on tap for the #64 team is this coming Saturday night at the Wilmot Raceway with the Arctic Cat Allstar Circuit of Champions along with the IRA. The team will then travel to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI on Sunday with both series.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries.
