Scotty Thiel – Podium Performance at Dodge County!

Friday night the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series lead the teams to the Horsepower Half mile at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI. After starting in the tenth position in the 23 lap Rick Schmidt Memorial event, Scotty charged his way forward to capture a third place podium finish.

During time trials, Scotty went out fifth and put down a 16.999 lap time which was 6th quick overall out of the 22 cars in attendance. After starting out fifth in the heat race event, Scotty moved up into the fourth spot several laps into the event. A mid race red flag came out and once the field went back to green flag racing action, Scotty jumped the cushion in turn one and packed the right front wheel full of mud which caused a very bad vibration over the course of the final laps of the heat. He still managed to pull off a fourth place finish which placed him in the nights’ redraw. After the redraw pill was picked, it would go on to place Thiel in the tenth starting position for the 23 lap Rick Schmidt Memorial event.

The field saluted the great race fans by going four wide down the front stretch. As they began to prepare for green flag action Scotty would start on the outside of row five. The green flag flew and they charged into turn one. Scotty worked the middle groove in the first corner and moved up into the eighth position coming down the back stretch. A few laps later he moved up another position and an early caution flag would come out. On the restart, Scotty struggled to move forward over the next few laps. With ten laps in, he finally made his move forward and began to reel in the lead cars. With fifteen laps completed, Scotty chased his way up into the top five and still had a lot of distance to the next lead cars. He moved up to the top groove of the track and continued his march forward. With two laps to go he stormed into the fourth position and with one lap to go he reeled in the top lead cars and would make his pass into the third position and crossed the line with a solid podium position finish. “The car was really good tonight. The Professional Plating, Scott Thiel Builders team worked hard to give me a great car to drive in the feature tonight. I didn’t even know the race was over until the said the top three cars to the front stretch and I was third. I was ready to go another 15 more laps.” Thiel laughed. “I was a respectable run from coming deeper in the field. Once we got going there the car felt great and we kept moving forward. I cannot thank my guys enough for their effort and thanks to the fans for coming out tonight!” Scotty concluded.

The next night the team traveled up to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI to race with the World of Outlaws. Scotty qualified 17th out of 28 cars in attendance. That placed him to start sixth in the heat race event. Over the course of the ten lap heat race, Scotty managed to charge his way up to the fourth position which locked him into the 35 lap main event and also an 11th place starting position. During the A-main event, Scotty was struggling with the handling of the car and fell back a few positions. On a restart, several cars got together and Scotty got into the back of another car and spun him into the infield. After tagging the rear of the field, he made one more lap before the car snapped loose on him due to the front end having sever damage and that would conclude the night for Thiel. “I’m a little bummed out that we did fairly well early on in the night and couldn’t capitalize on a great starting position we had in the main there. We got tangled up and the front end had damage but I still tried to run it which wasn’t the best idea. Pulled off before wrecking anymore stuff. We still made the show against these big guys so that’s an accomplishment in itself.” Concluded Thiel.

Next on tap is this coming Saturday and Sunday with the IRA Sprints. Saturday the team will travel south to the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI and follow that event up on Sunday where they will head to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
