Scotty Thiel – Scores 2nd at 141 Speedway

Mother Nature took the win at the Oshkosh Speedzone on Friday as the IRA Sprints were supposed to run but that left 141 Speedway as the sole event of the weekend for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team. Driver, Scotty Thiel gave a solid performance and would end up on the podium with a 2nd place finish in the 30 lap A-main event.

A stubborn mother nature played her part all weekend long as she would force Oshkosh Speedzone to cancel on Friday night and would make the grounds pretty wet at 141 Speedway early but sunny skies gave way in the early evening and made for a great Sunday night race program. The program was pushed back a little bit and would force the IRA Sprints to go qualify in groups. Scotty drew a 26 pill which placed him to be in the third group of qualifying. Thiel would make a solid lap at an 11.423 which placed him third quick overall for the night out of the 28 cars in attendance. That placed him to start sixth in the heat race event. As the field took the green, he worked the middle groove early but jumped up to the top and began to make his way forward. He was in the fifth spot for the first few laps but would start his charge forward shortly after. Scotty would slid into the fourth spot coming out of turn two and he carried his momentum to drive into the third spot with two laps to go. He would end up finishing third, transferring him into the nights 30 lap A-main event and the redraw to have a chance to start in the first five rows of the main. The redraw pill was picked and it would place Scotty to start in the fourth spot for the main event. At the drop of the green flag for the A-main event, Scotty started out by working the top side of the track but the red flag came out before the field completed one lap and would call for a complete restart. Scotty again worked the top side of the track as the field went back to green flag action. The lead cars entered into lap traffic quickly and Thiel began to work all angles of the track and worked his way up into the third spot. He would begin to apply pressure to the leaders and eventually worked his way into the second spot. A red flag flew with only 9 laps to go and would reset the field for a late race charge. The field went back to green and Scotty made a charge into turn one and came out of turn two alongside of the leader. He would not have the momentum to complete the pass and settled back into second place. He charge the top side of the track and held the margin between him and the leader. With only four laps to go, lap traffic began to factor the leaders and Thiel started to close the gap. The white flag flew and Scotty stormed around the cushion in turn one and two and closed the gap to within one car length of the leader going into turn three. He made his charge but wasn’t able to capitalize and would cross the finish line with a second place performance and another strong podium run. “I can’t really complain about that”, said Thiel as he climbed from his car. “I showed him the bottom that one time and he took advantage of that in lap traffic. We gave him a heck of a fight but just fell short. The car was pretty well hooked up all night long. Once we got through traffic there he didn’t walk away from us this this time”, note Thiel on his efforts to catch the leader. “We were right with him. I thought maybe we had one last charge there at the end but I wasn’t running the groove I should have been as I was off the cushion a little bit on that last green flag run. Regardless it was a solid night for our team. I cannot thank these guys enough for working so hard on this car and also to all of our great marketing partners that stand behind our operation”, concluded Thiel.

Next on tap for the #64 STM team is this coming Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI for the Triple Crown event and then the team will follow that up with their second appearance at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI on Sunday night.

Torsion Bar Rate:

There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
