Scotty Thiel - Secures Two More Top 5's

Thursday July 12th would bring the Scott Thiel Motorsports crew 4.5 hours away from the shop to Tipton, IA. It was the Cedar County Fair race with the Sprint Invader series. Scotty drew a 36 pill which set him to start seventh in his heat race event. After going to green flag action, Thiel would sneak down on the bottom side going into turn one, and come out of turn two in the second position. Thiel and the leader battled for the next nine laps but Scotty would fall short and take home the second spot and earning him a redraw opportunity for the Shake-Up Dash. Scotty drew a 2 pill and would start on the outside front row of the six lap dash. The green flag flew and Thiel would jump out to an early lead. He would not look back for the remaining portion of the race and took home the checkered flag. He stopped on the front stretch for pictures and would have to pick a hat to determine where he would start in the night's 25 lap A-Main event. Six hats were available to choose and of course Scotty would choose the number 6 hat. He would then start sixth in the A-main. After going green in the A-main event, Scotty would loose several positions as he was trying to make his car work on the extreme slick track conditions. A few laps were completed and Scotty began to regroup and come back through the field. A few cautions took place which helped Scotty get the field back together and have another opportunity at picking off several more spots. A caution came out with one lap to go so the field returned to green flag action for a one lap shootout. Thiel was in the fifth spot at the time of the restart and would battle hard for the fourth position but lost the drag race to the finish line by a nose wing.

The team would drive back home and prepare for Friday night at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway where Thiel won the A-main the week prior. The crew pulled into the track and Scotty drew a 31 pill and would start in the fifth position of the heat race event. Regardless where Scotty finished, the best he could start in the A-main would be 11th due to the feature win the prior week. That didn't stop him from battling hard in the heat race and would charge up to the second position in the first few laps. With only one lap to go, Scotty caught the leader and made it an exciting finish as they were neck and neck going across the finish line where Thiel would take second by only inches.

The field went green for the night's 30 lap A-Main event. Scotty did not hesitate to move forward and began to pass cars right away. He would work both side of the race track and charged forward quickly. After the first caution came out Thiel found himself sitting in the fifth position. He would battle for the fourth spot for the next several laps and would make the pass around the half way point of the main. Thiel caught the third place car and would make the pass and charge after the leaders. There were only a few laps left and Scotty would run out of time to catch the leaders and take home a solid third place finish and earned the Hard Charger award for passing 8 cars.

Saturday night would bring the team to the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Scotty drew a 31 pill again and would start fifth in the heat race event. Hardly any passing occurred in the heat and Scotty would come home in the fifth position, forcing him to run the B-main event in order to have a chance at the 25 lap A-main. Scotty started fourth in the B-main and after 15 laps of green flag action, came home in the fourth position. The would earn him a 20th place starting spot for the night's A-main event. Scotty knew it was going to be difficult to come through the field from the 20th spot but had to be smart and aggressive. After going green flag racing, he began the charge. Scotty worked every part of the track to make passing happen and it worked as he was up to the 8th spot in only 12 laps. A caution would come out and the field would become bunched back up. After returning to green, Thiel charged forward going into turn one. He split two cars in the middle of the track but then coming out of turn two, a car would spin right in front of Thiel and he had nowhere to go. Scotty got the car sideways and slapped wheels with the spinning car and would spin his car in a 360 but after getting the car straightened out, a car in the rear of the field got tangled with him. Thiel would get pushed into the work area where the team evaluated the car and discovered enough damage to pull Scotty out of the remaining part of the A-Main. It was very frustrating for the entire team as they knew Scotty had an extremely good car by passing 12 cars in 12 laps.

Overall, it was a good three day weekend of racing for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team. They locked in two more top 5 finishes. This week will bring the team only two days of racing on Friday and Saturday night, back at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway and at the Plymouth Dirt Track.
