Scotty Thiel - Top 5 at Plymouth!
As mother nature took out the Friday night racing plans for STM, the crew prepared for Saturday night at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Scotty drew a 49 pill which set him to start seventh in the second heat race. After the green flag dropped, Thiel began to pick off car after car and found himself in the second position in only a few short laps. A red flag came out late in the race and after returning to green, Thiel was unable to grab the top spot and settled in with the second place finish. That would set him to start fifth in the nights 25 lap A-main event.
At the start of the A-Main, Thiel used the low line to pick off several positions. By lap 3, he would take over the top spot and pull away from the field. Scotty continued to use the low line but the track conditions started to fad. He got passed a few laps later and jumped up to the high side. Lap traffic was approaching and Thiel went back to the low line to try to take over the lead once again. That was not the right idea as he lost two more positions. A yellow came out around mid-race and Thiel tried hard to regain those lost spots after going green but fell short. After 25 laps of racing was complete, Thiel would come home in the fourth position. "We had the car to win tonight, the driver just gave it up..." Scotty mentioned after the race.
Overall, it wasn't the result that Scotty was looking for but it was a good feeling for the team to finish a race since the bad luck struck the previous weekend. The crew will be working hard all week to get both the ASCS car and the MSA car prepared for this weekend. The crew will be traveling up to St. Croix Falls, WI on Friday to race the Kouba Memorial at the St.Croix Valley Raceway with the UMSS and returning back home on Saturday to race at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI.
