Thiel Locks In Two Solid Nights of Racing

After coming off a weekend with only one night of racing and a torn up race car, Scotty Thiel and the crew prepared all week long for two nights of racing. They picked up their MSA motor on Thursday afternoon and placed it in the car late Thursday night. The crew made some final touches to it and they were off to the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway.

Scotty drew a 4 pill which set him on the pole of the second heat race event. After the drop of the green flag, Thiel checked out and never looked back. He would go on to take the checkered flag and a third place starting spot in the nights 30 lap A-Main event.

The field got lined up for the A-main and Scotty was on a mission to get up to the front. The green flag dropped and he did just that, shooting down to the bottom and battled for the lead coming out of turn two. He would drop into the second position and be a force to the leader for a good portion of the race. Several yellow flags flew throughout the event. After the third yellow flew, the field got bunched back up, but Thiel managed to maintain his second place spot going into turns one and two. He got a good run off the bottom of turn four and made a slide job on the leader but the leader then would cross over and take it back away. Scotty attempted it one more time but managed to fall short and take second place back. After the final yellow for the night flew, the field would go back to green and Thiel's car was not firing like how it had been early in the event. Scotty dropped back to the fourth position and would take the checkered flag. It was still a solid top 5 run for the #64 Professional Plating sprint car but they knew they had the car to beat early on.

After evaluating the car early Saturday morning, the crew discovered that they were having an electrical issue which was the tach shortening out the mag. It would run fine until the temperature would rise and then start causing issues. They wired up a new switch and re-routed the wiring in the car and set off to the Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. Scotty drew a 33 pill which set him to start fifth in the third heat race event. After the field went green flag racing, Scotty charged forward and went to the bottom in turn one. The field was three wide going into turn one and the middle car made contact with Scotty's right rear tire, sending that car over, and collected several cars in the process. Thiel would restart in the second position and after going back to green, took the lead and again took the checkered flag! That heat win would set Thiel to start in the 10th position due to the invert for the nights 25 lap A-Main event.

At the drop of the green for the A-main event, Thiel passed a car and went to the bottom in hopes of making several more passes. After finding no traction on the bottom side of the race track, Thiel was stuck down there for several laps, loosing many positions. A yellow flag flew which would bunch the field back up and Scotty knew he would have his work cut out for him know. He managed to get back up to the high side but so did the rest of the field. After picking off several cars, Scotty would find himself coming home with an 11th place finish. It was not the ideal finish the team was looking for but it was another night that the car finished and was in one piece.

It was a fairly decent weekend for the Scott Thiel Motorsports sprint car team. They took home two heat race wins, a top 5, and an 11th place in the A-main events. Hopefully this was a little boost of luck for the team and they can carry forward momentum now. The team was initially looking at traveling to Eagle, NE for the Eagle Nationals with the ASCS but will now stay back home and race Manitowoc and Plymouth this coming weekend. Keep up to date on scottythiel.com for schedule changes as the team is looking at traveling in two weeks to Iowa and Minnesota.
