Rough weekend for STM
It was a rough and short weekend of racing for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team this past weekend. The team pulled into the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway Friday afternoon and prepared for the opening night of the MSA Sprint Car Series. Engine warm ups began and a few round of hot laps followed. Just as Scotty was beginning to enter the track for hot laps, his oil pressure gauge started to bounce around. He quickly pulled in and then shut the car off after the oil pressure dropped to zero. The team took a scratch for the night and went back to the shop, pulled the motor out, and began to get the ASCS car ready as there was two options for racing on Saturday. After further evaluation, the guys discovered they had broke the oil pump.
Saturday night's racing action took place at the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI. It was a local 410 show and the STM crew knew they could hold their own with the ASCS car. Scotty drew a 46 pill which set him to start sixth in the second heat race event. After the drop of the green, Scotty charged into turns one and two and picked up the fifth spot and would stay their for the remaining portion of the heat. That finsish would lock him into the night's 25 lap A-Main event, and give Thiel a 14th place starting spot.
The green flag dropped for the A-main event and Scotty began to slowly pick off a few cars. A few reds took place early but after green flag action took place for a lengthy amount of time. Thiel was charging forward and about up to the sixth position with only a handful of laps to go but as he came into turn one, the throttle pedal dropped to the floor board, but the car didn't do the same. Scotty coasted to a stop on the backstretch and was pushed back into the pits to later discover that they broke the throttle linkage that connects the throttle pedal to the motor. The track would later score Thiel in the 17th place.
It was an overall bad weekend for the #64 Professional Plating inc Triple X Chassis sprint car. Hopefully the bad luck is over with for the STM crew and they can look forward to this weekends racing action which will take place again at the Manitowoc Speedway and at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds at the Plymouth Dirt Track.
