Thiel impressive with Outlaws in Cedar Lake doubleheader; Iowa/Wisconsin trio ahead

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (July 5, 2022) - The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel put his nickname to work over the recent weekend, ultimately scoring three top-ten finishes in three starts including two against the Greatest Show On Dirt in Cedar Lake’s Independence Day Spectacular on Friday and Saturday, July 1-2. In fact, Thiel’s performances at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, allowed the nearby Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native to accomplish his best-ever finishes during World of Outlaws competition, first hard-charging to eighth on Friday before rallying from 13th to sixth in the weekend finale on Saturday.
Thiel commenced Friday’s hard-charging performance from 19th on the A-Main grid, forced to start deep after winning the evening’s Last Chance Showdown.
“That was fun. We were a little frustrated with things on Thursday, but to rebound and put together two great finishes with the World of Outlaws says so much about this team’s potential. I’m confident we have what it takes to be up front with these guys,” Thiel expressed, driver of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walkers Game Ear, Professional Plating Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, KSI Supply, GRP Motorsports, Racers Hall, Triple X Chassis, K1 Race Gear, HRP, King Racing Products, No. 73 sprint car. “We get to battle with the Outlaws again this weekend, so we’ll do whatever we can to improve on these finishes and hopefully get a win for our Wisconsin fans at Wilmot.”
Thiel activated his holiday weekend with a ninth-place finish in IRA Outlaw Sprint Series action at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin, on Thursday, June 30. The two-time IRA winner in 2022 battled as high as third in the running order, but an eventual spin would send Thiel to the tail forcing the Team 73 wheelman to recover.

The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2022 campaign with a trio across Iowa and Wisconsin beginning with a visit to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, on Thursday, July 7. Thiel’s weekend will continue with a pair of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series starts at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, July 8, and Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on Saturday, July 9.
