Thiel – Back to Back Runner up Weekend

Scotty Thiel and the STM #64 team were supposed to have two nights this past weekend with the IRA Sprint Car Series. After Mother Nature decided to open up and dumb heavy rain across most of the southern part of Wisconsin Friday night, it led to the cancellation of Beaver Dam Raceway where the team was supposed to take part at on Saturday evening. Scotty received a call from Randy Sippel later that day and they decided to go race at Plymouth Dirt Track with the MSA 360 Series. Thiel would make a solid effort at Plymouth but come up one spot short in the main event. Sunday led the Scott Thiel Motorsports team to the 141 Speedway with the IRA where Thiel would go on to win his heat race and again battle it out in the main event but would end up in the second position. All in all it was a successful weekend for Scotty and his teams as they now will prepare for the upcoming weekend at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee with the World of Outlaws.

Saturday night Scotty took part of the MSA 360 racing action at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI in the Sippel Racin 39s car. 38 cars were in attendance that evening and Scotty drew a 20 pill which placed him to start third in the heat race event. A rough and tacky track was presented to the field for the ten lap heat race event where Thiel would waste no time early on and charge into the lead. He would end up taking the heat race win and be the high point driver for the night after heat race action. An 8 car invert was pulled by the series official which meant Scotty would start 8th in the 25 lap main event. Thiel would go on in the feature and begin to charge the top side of the track where he made up a lot of ground and would find himself in the top five after the first few green flag laps. A caution came out with 17 laps to go and Scotty made himself known he was out to win as he rocketed around the top side in turn one on the restart and launched his way into the second position. He battled for the lead briefly before another caution would fly. After the restart, Thiel lost his brakes and would not be able to charge hard into the corners like he was earlier in the race and would end up settling for a second place finish. “All in all it was a pretty good night. We got the heat win early and that set us up alright for the main. I thought we really had a chance once we got into second but that last caution really hurt as I was getting ready to make the pass for the lead.” Thiel mentioned after the night.

Sunday would bring the STM #64 team out to the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI with the IRA Sprint Car Series. 25 cars were in attendance and Scotty would draw a 47 pill which placed him to go out 20th in the qualifying lineup. The track began to dry out towards the end of qualifying but Thiel was still able to manage a seventh place qualifying effort. That would place him to start on the outside front row of the heat race event. After taking the green flag in heat race action, Thiel would take command of the lead right away and never look back, capturing the heat race victory. That would allow Scotty to be in the redraw for the 30 lap main event. He would go on to draw the number three starting position for the A-main. The field went to green for the main event and Thiel charged his way into the second position after the first corner. The top two would begin to pull away from the field and quickly approach lap traffic where the lead margin was kept at a narrow distance. A caution came out and reset the field. Scotty was able to get a great start and threw a slider on the leader but hit the cushion and pulled the front wheels off the ground which allowed the initial leader to get past Thiel down the back stretch. The battle continued on but Thiel would get into the wall with five laps to go and lost some distance on the leader. He fought hard but would settle for another second place finish. “We really did have a good night honestly. I knew we had a good car early on and I could drive the thing anywhere. Lap traffic was going to be a difficult task but we held our own and got through it really well without losing much ground on the leader. Couple of the cautions hurt us as we got really close and slid for the lead there once but fell short of making it stick. We’ll take a second and try again next time.” Scotty said after the main event.

Next on tap for the #64 team is this coming weekend at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for the Music City Nationals with the World of Outlaw Nos Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. This event will be Friday and Saturday night! Can’t make it out to watch? No problem! Checkout all of the racing action on www.dirtvision.com!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
