Scotty Thiel - Top 5 Top 10 Weekend

Coming off of a hard charging weekend at the Clay County Speedway where Scotty Thiel drove from 22nd to 6th place finish in the A-main, the team prepared for a double header weekend with the IRA Sprint Car Series. Night one brought the team to the Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday night and would follow up the weekend on Sunday at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. Scotty would go on to record two top 10 finishes for the weekend.

Saturday night brought the team to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA Series. 39 cars were in attendance and Scotty was the 36th car to go out and qualify. After putting down a 12.178 lap time it was 10th quick on the night. That placed Thiel to start on the outside front row of the heat race event. Scotty would take the green flag and charge to the lead going into turn one. He would not look back and shoot out to a commanding lead. After 10 laps of green flag action, Thiel would capture the heat race victory and lock himself into the night’s redraw event. The redraw didn’t go as planned and Scotty drew the #10 starting position for the 30 lap main event. As the field took the green, Thiel worked his way up a few positions early on but began to struggle as the race went on. He maintained the 7th position until he moved up the track and began to charge around the top side of the track. With only a few laps to go, Scotty rocketed his way up to the fourth position and would cross the finish line. “It was a pretty solid top five finish for us tonight. We have been struggling all month long and this one felt good. I didn’t think we were all that great early on and I struggled on the bottom. Once the top was cleaned off I was able to rip around up there and we managed to get up to fourth.” Mentioned Thiel after the night.

Sunday night brought the team to the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. 33 cars were in attendance for the event and Scotty was the 15th car to qualify. After putting down a 12.022 lap it was 3rd quick on the night! That placed Thiel to start in the fourth position in the ten lap heat race. He would go on and charge into the lead and capture the heat race victory. During the redraw, he would pick the sixth starting position for the 30 lap, $5,000 to win main event. The track became pretty tricky as the night went on and the preferred line was right around the wall. The field took the green and Thiel maintained the sixth position. As all the lead cars were nose to tail right around the wall, Thiel attempted to shoot down to the bottom of the track and try to make up some ground but wasn’t able to complete anything and lost a couple of spots. He quickly jumped back up to the top side of the track and got into line with the lead cars. Struggling to move forward, Thiel continued to work the top side of the track but was not able to make up ground and would finish the 30 lap main event in the 8th position. “Little disappointed tonight with our finish. We started out pretty strong with qualifying and that heat race win. I thought we were going to be good in the main but just wasn’t able to make up any ground. Tricky track but we’ll take a top ten and move on to Plymouth next week.” Stated Thiel after the event.

Next on tap is the final point’s night of the IRA Series on Saturday night at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Scotty was able to pull off the win the last time the Series visited the track in August.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
