Scotty Thiel – Picks Up Win #5 in Plymouth!

Mother Nature tried to damper Saturday nights racing action at the Plymouth Dirt Track with the IRA but a little patience paid off and the track was able to pull off a complete race program. Thiel would end up third quick overall in the grand prix style qualifying round to make up time. After finishing third in the heat race event, he would go on to start the 27 lap Frank Filskov Memorial A-main event in the second position and never look back as he led all race long and captured his 5th victory of the season!

Weather delayed the race program by a good half an hour which forced the IRA Series to do a grand prix style qualifying format. Five cars would hit the track and the fastest lap time would form the qualifying order. Scotty put down an 11.540 lap time which was third quick on the evening. That would place Thiel to start the 10 lap heat race event in the fourth position. After taking the green flag, Thiel battled for the second spot but wasn’t able to carry the momentum and make the pass and would settle for a third place finish. During the redraw, Thiel drew the #2 pill which would place him to start the 27 lap A-main event in the second position. A fairly tacky track presented the 24 car field and when they took the green, Scotty rocketed out front. He would enter lap traffic in just four laps and began to pick his way through as the field chased him down. A yellow flag would come out with ten laps to go. Thiel was able to get a great restart and pull a commanding lead. He once again entered lap traffic very quickly and would lose ground on his lead. He was able to get through the lap cars and would cross the finish line in first, picking up his fifth victory of the season! “Man this one feels really awesome. Home track and we have a lot of our sponsors here tonight. I knew starting up front was going to be good with how the track was tonight. These guys gave me a rocket ship tonight. I could go wherever I needed to go and the car stuck. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support!” stated an excited Thiel after the event.

Next up on tap for the #64 STM team will be this coming weekend as they will make the haul to the Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, OH on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night will feature a $3,000 to win prelim contest while Saturday night features the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals paying $15,000 to the main event winner!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
