Scotty Thiel – Bad Luck at Antigo
Friday night the #64 Scott Thiel Motorsports team traveled north to Antigo, WI to race at the Langlade County Fairgrounds with the IRA Sprint Car Series. After missing hot laps due to throttle issues, Scotty would put on a strong qualifying effort, missing quick time by two one hundredths of a second. From there, he would go on to win the heat race event from the sixth position but then the luck would turn the wrong direction in the main event.
20 cars signed into the Langlade County Speedway on Friday night. Scotty would go out 16th in the qualifying order. After missing hot laps due to throttle issues, he would have to make the best of his qualifying efforts to get a feel of the car. Nothing phased Thiel as he went on to put down the second quick lap time of the night and was just .020 seconds off the quick time. That would place him to start sixth in the heat race event. The field took the green flag for the eight lap heat race event and Scotty didn’t waste any time moving forward. He charged up into the third position on the first lap and by the half way marker was up to second. A quick caution came out which reset the field. After going back to green flag action, Scotty would charge around the leader in turn four and take over the lead with a few laps left. He would go on to win the heat race event and put himself in the redraw for the A-main event. The four pill was picked out and that would place Scotty to start in the eighth position for the nights 25 lap A-main event. When the field took the green flag, Scotty charged around the outside of turns one and two and would jump into the third position right away. He maintained his pace with the lead cars for the next several laps and the top three cars then started to approach lap traffic. With about ten laps complete, Scotty was right on the tail of the second place car as they drove around the lap traffic. Scotty would go on to enter turn one and the car suddenly snapped sideways and he would then get collected with another car. This would end the night for Thiel as there was just too much damage for the crew to fix in time. “I’m not sure what really happened out there. The car was wicked fast early on and I was just abiding my time and then going into one it just snapped sideways on me. I’m not sure if something broke but I couldn’t save it from spinning. I feel horrible for everyone involved. I felt like we had a good shot at the win tonight but things just happen. I wish I could have saved it and kept it all in one piece. I’m just bummed out about it.” Stated a disappointed Thiel after the conclusion of the event.
The team was supposed to travel to Wilmot Raceway on Saturday to race with the World of Outlaws but decided to take the evening off and re-cooperate and assess the damages.
The team will be back in action this weekend starting off Friday night at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI and follow that event up at the Plymouth Dirt Track at Sheboygan County Fairgrounds on Saturday night. Both events are sanctioned with the IRA Sprints.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
