Scotty Thiel – Makes Podium at Manitowoc!
For the first time in over 13 years the Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Outlaw sprint cars returned to Manitowoc Speedway on Friday July 3rd. This was the first annual Harbor Town Showdown promoted by SixFour Promotions which is ran by none other than Scott Thiel Motorsports’ own driver, Scotty Thiel. After coming off a fresh win at Manitowoc a week prior in a 360, Scotty was ready to tackle the challenge in the 410 as well as the promoter. Thiel missed his line in qualifying where he would end up being 14th quick on the night but followed that up with a second place finish in his heat race and would charge to a podium finish in the A-main event.
Drawing a 23 pill, Scotty would be the 12th car out for the night in IRA Qualifying. He tried running a couple different lines while qualifying but would end up being the 14th quickest car. That placed him to start in the second position in the ten lap heat race event. He was not able to get a great start in the heat and fell back to third after running the low line in turn one. He quickly moved up to the top side of the track and began to reel the leaders back in. He charged forward and would make the move for the second position while coming towards the checkered flag. He was still able to make the invert draw for the nights 30 lap A-main event. After the invert number was drawn, Scotty would go on to start the main event in the eighth position.
A slick and very wide race track presented the field of 24 cars. Scotty knew it was going to be tricky to maintain grip and be confident enough to run up against the guard rail. The field went four wide to salute the fans as fireworks blasted in the background. With the one to go signal waving, the field began to bunch up going into turn three. The green flag flew and the main event was under way. Scotty charged up through the middle of the track and within two laps found himself up to the fourth spot. He worked the middle groove for a few more laps and jumped up to the high side with six laps in the books. He moved into the third position by lap eight and began his charge forward. Working the very top side of the track he managed to reel the leaders in that were a full straightaway ahead. Nonstop racing action continued and the top three cars were nose to tail. Lap traffic began to get heavy and the leaders managed to make their way through. With the white flag flying, Scotty built up some momentum and slid into the second position going into turn one. He was unable to keep the grip under him and slipped back into third going down the backstretch. He charged hard around the top side in turns three and four but fell short by less than a car length at the line and would settle for the third position.

I need to thank Jeff Robinson for turning the wrenches on it. We fell short but it still was a great night. I need to thank my SixFour Promotions staff for working hard to make this event happen as well as the staff from Manitowoc. I cannot thank my crew enough for working hard to give me a great car. Overall it was a great night and I hope we can make this event happen again!” Exclaimed Thiel after the main event.
Next on tap for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team is a three day weekend starting out Friday at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI followed by two nights in New Richmond, WI at Cedar Lake Speedway with the World of Outlaws!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
