Scotty Thiel – Prevails at Plymouth!
In his six years of racing at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin, Scotty Thiel has yet to grab an A-Main win at his home town track. He didn’t let that streak last any longer when he clean swept last Saturday night by winning the heat race and the 25 lap A-main event!
After picking a two (2) pill for the heat race, Scotty would go on to start on the pole of the ten lap race. The green flag dropped and he grabbed onto the early lead. He worked the high groove for all ten laps and won by a large margin. With a six pill invert, it set Scotty to start on the pole of the 25 lap A-main event.
A tricky race track was set on the night as two extremes were presented. Turn one and two had cushion while three and four was really slick from top to bottom. The field was pushed off and prepared to line up to take the green flag. Coming out of turn four the green flag dropped and Scotty was able to get a great launch and charged to the top side of the track going into turn one. He pulled out a few car lengths off of turn two and decided to take the high side in turn three and four. The car washed up a little to much for Thiel’s liking and he lost all the ground he had from the first corner. He went on to use the top side back in turn one and the bottom in turn three and four. After getting settled in, he began to pull away from the field. He entered lap traffic in only eight short laps. Scotty didn’t hesitate in lap traffic and used turn one as his advantage to make passes on the lap cars. Thiel maintained a good straight-a-way lead for the majority of the A-main. A caution came out on lap 21 when two cars got together in turn two. This allowed the field to get bunched back up. Scotty had six lap cars in between himself and the second place car but because there was less than five laps left in the 25 lap A-main, all lapped cars were sent to the rear of the field. Scotty knew he would have to have a great restart with all the lead lap cars right on his bumper. He brought the field down into turn three and launched out of turn four back to green flag action. He again work the top side in turn one and pulled a few car lengths away out of turn two. Three quick laps later, Thiel was given the white flag and had a comfortable half a straight lead over the second place car. After coming out of turn four, the checkered flag flew and Scotty Thiel would cross the line with his first ever A-main win at the Plymouth Dirt Track!
“Wow, we finally did it! It’s been a long six years coming here and finishing second numerous amounts of time. I had Rookie of the Year my first year here along with a bunch of heat race wins since 2008. My guys worked hard tonight and we had a bad fast car that was hooked up all 25 laps. I can’t thank them enough for their hard work. We haven’t been here (Plymouth) much all year due to engine issues but we came back strong and finally pull off a win here! It feels really good!” Said an excited Scotty Thiel after the A-Main win.
Next up on the Scott Thiel Motorsports schedule is this coming Friday night at the Oshkosh Speedzone in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with the MSA Series, along with Saturday night back at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
