Engine Troubles Doom Thiel at Dodge
The season finale of the MSA Sprint Car Series took place Saturday night at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI. It was the first trip to the big half mile for the #64 Scott Thiel Motorsports team. Scotty drew a 26 pill which would set him in the third row outside starting position for the heat race event. He did not get a great start but managed to work his way into the fourth spot in the first lap. After securing the third place position, Scotty charged hard and would make a last lap slide job on the second place car. That second place finish would allow him to start on the outside front row of the nights 20 lap A-Main event.
The field came down and took the green flag. Scotty was able to get a great jump on the start and took over the early lead going into turn one. He began to pull away from the field but a caution would come out after a few completed laps. Scotty would take the field back to green flag action and work on getting the decent size lead back. After going green for a few laps, Scotty started to notice the motor starting to slow down little by little. It was bogging down pretty good in the corners and going into turn one the next lap, a huge puff of smoke came out and he immediately pulled into the infield. Scotty jumped out of the car an saw a large amount of oil blown out of the motor. It was a short lived feature event for the #64 car.
It was an unfortunate way of ending out the MSA season but overall it was a pretty decent year for the #64 Professional Plating Inc Triple X Sprint car. The team pulled off four wins with the series, 12 top five and 15 top ten finishes and a third place finish in the overall point standings.
This weekend the STM team is off to the Elko Speedway in Elko, MN for the Elko Winter Nationals. It will be a two day event, Friday and Saturday.
