Thiel Scores 3 Wins in 4 days!
After coming off an exciting Manitowoc Fair Race Win on Wednesday night, the Scott Thiel Motorsports crew worked hard to prepare for a weekend of racing with the Upper Midwest Sprint Series in Northern Wisconsin. Friday night brought them to the St. Croix Valley Raceway in St. Croix Falls, WI and Saturday was at Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, WI.
Scotty drew a 44 pill on Friday night and would start forth in the heat race event. In only six short laps, Scotty worked his way through to a second place finish. That would place him to start forth again in the Ultimate Sprint Challenge race event. This time it was an eight lap race and Scotty was able to get a good start and get into the second spot on the first lap. He would take the second place finish and be the second high point car of the night. An invert of 4 was drawn so that placed Thiel to start third in night's 20 lap A-Main event. The field took the green flag and Scotty drove hard into turn one. He worked the bottom side but fell short of grabbing the lead. He dropped into the third position and pressured the second place car for several laps. After getting a good run off the corner Thiel would make a slide job and take over the second spot with the leader close in sight. Scotty caught the leader on lap 14 and would make another slide job on lap 15 to take over the top spot! The race went green until lap 19 when a car came to a stop in turn three. A green-white-checkered finish would then occur. Scotty knew the pressure would be tough from Brooke Tatnell who was in the second spot. They went back to green and Scotty charged hard into the corner. Tatnell tried to make a move but fell short and Scotty would come to take the checkered flag and his second career win with the UMSS series and his 4th win of 2012!
Scotty and the crew celebrated the Victory but went right back to work in the morning for the night's racing action in Rice Lake. The team pulled into the track later on that afternoon with an iffy sky. Weather was near but would not make it to the track and a full program of racing took place.
Scotty drew a 22 pill which would set him on the outside pole of the heat race event. He was able to get a great start and took the lead going into turn one. He would not look back and took home the heat race win and a fifth place starting spot in the Ultimate Challenge Race. The challenge race did not go well for Scotty as he was battling for the third spot and made contact with the other car. No damage occurred but Scotty had to make a save that would make him loose several spots. He was able to regroup and charge back to a forth place position. The invert was an 8 and place Thiel in a sixth place starting spot for the night's 20 lap A-main event. After taking the green, Scotty charged to the third spot on the first lap. The leader would pull into the infield and move everyone up one spot. On lap six, Scotty got a huge run on the leader off of turn two and made a slide job on the leader going into turns three and four. He took over the top spot and pull a straightaway lead before a caution came out on lap ten. Again, Brooke Tatnell was in the second spot and Scotty knew that he would be coming fast. They went back to green and Scotty anticipated a slide job from Tatnell and took his line away. Tatnell was able to gain some ground going into turn three but Scotty shot down to the bottom and it was a drag race off of four. Thiel regained the lead going into turn one and would not look back and after 9 more laps, took home the Checkered flag! It was the second over the UMSS weekend and third win for the entire week!
The entire crew was extremely happy and celebrated the for an unbelievable week/weekend of racing. It was a great motivator for Scotty and the entire crew. Three wins in four days an incredible accomplishment for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team. The whole STM team cannot thank all of their great marketing enough for all the great support!
