Scotty Thiel Hard Charges at Plymouth

It was a cold night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds last Saturday, September 17th, as the STM team prepared for the final points night at PDTR. It was a rocky begining but the team prevailed and ended up with a top 10 finish and a hard charger award.

Scotty drew a 17 pill which set him to start inside the second row for the heat race event. At the drop of the green, Thiel dove down low going into turn one to make a pass but bobbled a little and cost him a few positions. He charged back but was unable to make any more passes before the checkered flag flew and rounded out with a 5th place finish, forcing him to come through the B-Main.

The crew made little adjustments to the car as the track conditions were not changing too dramatically. Thiel started inside the second row again for the B-Main and held that position from green to checkered, allowing Thiel to start in the 21st position for the night's 27 Lap Filskov Memorial A-Main event.

Scotty knew he would have to be patient, yet, aggressive starting that far back in order to move foward. The track had a foot and a half high cushion built up in turn three and four and would be a big factor the entire race. At the drop of the green, Thiel grabbed a few spots going into turn one. He worked the bottom side for several laps and then jumped up top to complete several other passes. Several cautions and red flag's took place throughout the main which only helped Scotty move forward. With 20 laps complete, Thiel found himself inside the top 10 and knew he had a good enough car to make it in the top 5. The green came back out and Scotty tried working the low line again. He made a pass but was struggling to make another for the 7th position. With the white flag flying, Thiel drove real hard going into turn one and got a nose inside the 7th place car. They drag raced down the back stretch and Scotty completed the pass and took the checkered flag in the 7th position. Thiel earned the hard charger award for passing 14 cars.

It was an up and down night for the entire STM team but they prevailed through it all and ended up with a solid top 10 finish. Scott Thiel Motorsports would like to thank all their great marketing partners for the 2011 season:
