Scotty Thiel – Winning Weekend Sweep!

Scotty Thiel and his Scott Thiel Motorsports team were dominant in the double header weekend with the IRA Sprint Car Series as they would take home the win on Saturday at Plymouth Dirt Track and Sunday at Angell Park Speedway! After starting sixth in the main event at Plymouth, Thiel used his time wisely and would take over the top spot with five laps to go to take home his second win of the season. On Sunday, he started up front and never looked back as he lead all 30 lap of the main event at Angell Park to capture his third win of the season!

A warm weekend of racing presented the Scott Thiel Motorsports #64 team. They traveled to their home track of the Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds on Saturday night with the Bumper to Bumper IRA sprint car series. Scotty drew a 10 pill which placed him to go out second in qualifying. After he put down a 12.047 lap time that would hold up to be Quick Time for the night out of the 35 cars in attendance. Thiel would go on to start sixth in the heat race event. He worked the low groove as the field took the green flag. He took his time and let the car work and would eventually move on up through the field. With the help of a couple cautions, Scotty found himself up to the second position on the last restart and would settle for that finish after 10 laps of green flag action. Since Scotty was quick time of the night he would draw the pill for the A-main invert. He picked a 3, which would invert the first three rows and that placed him to start in the sixth position for the nights 30 lap A-main event. As the field took the green for the A-main event, Scotty worked the top side of the track for the first lap then quickly got down to the bottom. He held the fifth position until a caution came out a few laps later. It moved him up to the fourth spot after the restart and he began to work the top side once again as the field went back to green. He charged his way into the third position and began to reel in the leaders. Two more cautions came out throughout the next 15 laps of green flag action. Thiel abided his time and began his charge with seven laps to go. He was right on the heels of the leaders as they approached lap traffic. On lap 24, Scotty slid his way into second in turn two and charged down the back stretch. He built up his momentum in turn one and two and would fly into turn three and slide up into the lead coming out of turn four with five laps to go. He never looked back and pulled away from the field. After 30 laps of action, Scotty would cross the line with his second win of the season! “At the beginning of the race I didn’t think we were worth a shot of powder. This team, they worked their butts off and gave me a car that was going to come around. I really didn’t think we were that good early on. I started working the top as the race went on, working the cushion and it turned around pretty good”, noted Thiel of the late charge. “I want to thank all you fans for coming out tonight. We finally got one at Plymouth with the 410!” exclaimed an elated Thiel.

The team cleaned the car up and prepared for Sunday nights action at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. 27 cars were in attendance on Sunday and Scotty drew a six pill which put him out second for qualifying. They missed the set up a little bit as he put down a 13.453 lap time which was good enough for 15th quick overall. That placed Thiel to start on the outside front row of the heat race event. The field took the green for the 10 lap heat race event. Scotty settled into the second position down the backstretch and maintained his distance on the leader. After the half way point of the race, Scotty began to reel in the leader by working the top side of the track. As the white flag flew, Scotty dove down to the bottom of turn one and slid up into the lead coming down the back stretch. He would cross the line first and put himself into the nights A-main event and the redraw. The number 5 pill was picked during the redraw which placed Scotty to start on the outside front row of the nights 30 lap A-main event. As the field took the green flag for the main event, Scotty charged through the middle of turn one and would take the lead off of turn two. He continued his charge and would lead lap one of the main event. Scotty began to open up his lead on the field as a caution came out several laps later. On the restart, Thiel did not waste any time and pulled away out front. Within the next five laps, lap traffic began to approach. Scotty charged his way through as one more caution came out with the race half way completed. On the restart, Scotty spun the tires a little bit which allowed the second place car to pull alongside in turn one and two. Thiel did not hesitate and charged back around in turn three and kept the lead as he crossed the line. Lap traffic became a factor again as there was only ten laps left in the race. Scotty kept working the top side and held his distance from the second place car. The white flag flew and Thiel maintained two lap cars between him and the second place car and would charge off turn four to capture his third win of the season and complete his first weekend sweep with the IRA series! Thiel acknowledged his father as the victory lane interview with series announcer Ray Underwood began. “I didn’t buy him a father’s day card so I hope he’s happy with two victories this weekend”, shouted an exhilarated Thiel. “I have to thank the fans for coming out tonight. I hope you had a great father’s day. This is unbelievable I don’t know what to say”, as he embraced his crew in victory lane. “We started on the front row and got it done, it’s something I never thought I’d do. We usually don’t have good luck like that. These crew guys worked their butts off. We didn’t know what to do with the setup and we just went with our gut feelings and it worked out”, Thiel concluded.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
