Scotty Thiel – Victorious at Sun Prairie!

Sunday was the first stop at Angell Park Speedway for the IRA Outlaw Sprints along with the first win of the season for Scotty Thiel and his Scott Thiel Motorsports #64 race team! Thiel was victorious after starting out in the 7th position and charged his way forward to pick up his first win of the 2016 season! The team was on a momentum swing after Scotty charged his way through the field on Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway as he started out in 22nd and would finish in the 9th position in the A-main event!

On Saturday the team headed south to the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI for the Allstar/IRA showdown. Scotty drew a 37 pill which placed him to go out 26th in the qualifying order. 44 cars were on hand for this co-sanctioned event with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints and the Arctic Cat Allstar Series. Qualifying would not go spectacular for Thiel as he laid down a 14.137 and would end up 28th quick on the night. That would place him to start seventh in the heat race event. The field took the green flag and charged into turn one. Scotty worked the middle groove early on but struggled to move forward. A caution came out after two laps were completed and reset the field. On the restart, Thiel moved up to the high side and began his charge forward. It took a few laps for Thiel to get comfortable but at the half way point he was on a mission to get to the front. He drove his way into the fourth position and held that spot for a few laps. The white flag was flying and Thiel would rocket his way into the second position coming off of turn two. He charged hard into turn three but would fall short of the win by 0.137 seconds and finish in the second position. That would lock him into the nights 35 lap A-main event. Scotty would not be eligible for the redraw due to his qualifying time and would end up starting in the 22nd position in the main event. The field took the green flag for the 35 lap A-main event and Scotty began to work his way forward little by little. He would work the low groove for majority of the race and picked off several cars as the field approached the half way marker. Several cautions helped get the field bunched up and gave Scotty the opportunity to make more passes. With only a few laps left, Thiel began to work his way towards the top ten. One late caution helped get the field lined back up and Scotty would not hesitate on the restart by making his charge in turn one. He drove his way into the ninth position and would maintain that position as the checkered flag flew. Thiel would go on to earn the nights MSD Hard Charger award for advancing 13 positions in the A-main event. “It was actually a decent night for us after how bad it started. Qualifying is so crucial especially when there are so many cars like tonight. That set us back but we made up for it as the night went on. I thought I was going to have a shot at winning that heat race but fell short by just a little bit. We moved forward and had a solid top ten performance. Hopefully we can carry this momentum onto tomorrow night at Sun Prairie.” Commented Thiel after the event.

Sunday night brought the team to the legendary Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. Scotty and the team did pretty well at this track throughout the 2015 season and Scotty was ready to see what they could do. 29 cars were signed into sun prairie and Scotty would go out 12th in the qualifying order. After putting down a 12.648 lap time, that would place Thiel 8th quick on the night. He would end up starting the 10 lap heat race in the fourth position. The field took the green flag and charged into turn one. Scotty worked the low groove in turn one and would jump into the third position on lap one. He would charge forward but could not advance anymore spots after racing around the top side of the track for all ten laps. That finish would place Thiel to be in the redraw which would then place him to start in the 9th position. As the field prepared to take the green flag, the leader elected to go to the rear which moved the inside row forward and allowing Thiel to start in the 7th position. The field took the green and Scotty stormed around the bottom side of the track. He jumped up into the fourth position in the first two laps and continued to gain ground on the leaders. Several laps later he worked his way into the second position. Several cautions and red flags occurred throughout the 30 lap main event which would give Thiel the chance to gain some momentum on the restart. On lap 15, Scotty worked the low groove and would take the lead coming out of turn two. He stormed up to the top side of the track in turn three and never looked back. A caution came out on lap 21 and reset the field. Scotty brought the field back to green and continued his charge. He caught lap traffic on lap 25 but would continue his pace. Working the high groove he held the lead and would cross the finish line, scoring his first A-main win of the season! “Holy smokes man, I don’t even know how to put this into words”, exclaimed Thiel as he climbed down from the wing of his car after saluting the crowd in victory lane. “We’ve been fighting so many things this year and even last year we were fighting so many problems”, stated Thiel. “We’ve been running really good here, the last couple times and had a second and a third. I just said guys one of these times it got to be our turn for luck here. I can’t thank the guys enough that work on this team, Mike and my dad. Everyone that’s a part of it. They understand how much this racing means to me. This win isn’t just for me it’s for every single one of them”, he said as the victory celebration began.

This feature win would mark Scotty’s second career IRA win and his 20th overall career A-main victory.

Next on tap for the #64 STM team is this coming Friday night as they travel to the Oshkosh Speedzone in Oshkosh, WI and follow that up with Sunday night at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
